When his staunch Socialist of a mother falls into a coma, East Berliner Alex vows to protect her come what may. But then the Berlin Wall falls just as his mother wakes, leaving Alex in a quandary: either he tells his mother the truth and risks losing her from shock, or pretends that her beloved Communism has not been overthrown. Unsurprisingly Alex chooses pretence over reality and excels in convincing his mother that Gorbachev and friends are still in power in this witty and nostalgic German film.
